Surrey Scorchers are delighted to announce that versatile guard Padiet Wang will remain at Surrey Sports Park for the 2023/24 season.
The South Sudan international joined Scorchers last season off the back of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, where he helped his country qualify for their first-ever World Cup.
During that tournament, he averaged five points in under 20 minutes of court time, while last season for the Scorchers he averaged 13.6 points per game, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists.
The 6’4’’ guard started his 2021/22 season with Portuguese side Academica, before finishing the season playing for the Cobras in the recently launched African BAL.
Wang grew up in Colorado and completed his collegiate career at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UUCS). In his senior year, he impacted the court at both ends of the floor being named RMAC defensive player of the year and reigns as the all-tie UCCS leader in steals.
On wearing the Scorchers jersey for a second season, Wang said:
“I’m delighted to be staying at Surrey Sports Park. I really enjoyed my first season in a Scorchers jersey and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Surrey fans once again.”
Head coach, Lloyd Gardner said:
“Padiet was a bright spot in a difficult season last year for our team. I have no doubt he is going to build on his strong year and look to push on even more.”
“It’s great to be able to bring back the fans’ Player of the Season. I felt like Padiet improved as the season went on both in his comfort with the league and in his decision-making and leadership. This is something we are going to need even more from him and I’m sure he is up for the challenge.”
