Young Canadian star Mason Bourcier makes move to Manchester Giants

Manchester Giants Head Coach, Brian Semonian, has acquired one of the most exciting young Canadian talents for his 2023/24 British Basketball League roster in the form of guard, Mason Bourcier, who will head to the north-west for his debut professional campaign.

Having graduated from Trinity Western College in British Columbia this summer, Bourcier was the third pick in the 2023 U Sports Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Draft, playing for the Calgary Surge alongside former London Lions centre Kylor Kelley.

The 23-year-old brings significant experience with him to Manchester as a rookie, having played three summers in the CEBL through the Draft, which selects the most promising homegrown talents in Canadian colleges for development slots in the league, but goes into his first full season as a professional with the Giants under the guidance of Coach Semonian.

The 6’4” guard graduated from Trinity Western having led the team to their first winning season since 2012/13, while securing All-Canadian and Canada West First-Team honours to cap off his collegiate career, scoring 19.9 points per game alongside six assists and two steals per game, demonstrating Bourcier’s talents a legitimate two-way threat in college.

Looking ahead to his first season in the British Basketball League, Bourcier said:

“I really appreciate the Manchester Giants organisation for giving me this opportunity. I’m excited to bring intensity to both sides of the ball and win games for the city this year! I can’t wait to meet all the fans and get the season started!”

Giants Head Coach, Brian Semonian, added:

“Even in these first days of training, I have been surprised by Mason’s athleticism on both ends of the floor. He is an explosive perimeter player with the strength of a post player. That type of versatility combined with his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, fits easily into our team concept.”
