One of the most exciting new additions to the BBL this season, rookie American forward Tajh Green of the Manchester Giants, has scooped the Molten BBL Player of the Month award for March.
After being close to monthly honours numerous times already, he finished March by becoming the first player this season to record a triple-double in the BBL, separating him in another close contest.
That came in victory over Plymouth City Patriots at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester, making it three straight wins at home for Giants, as Green finished with 19 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists.
In all, the 6’8″ 24-year-old averaged a double-double over his six games in March – the only player to do so – by posting 19 points and 11 rebounds per outing, along with three assists, a steal and a block, while shooting 47% from the floor.
Giants went 4-2 in the month and currently occupy fourth place in the BBL Championship table, with two notable wins over the second-placed Bristol Flyers in the last month. Those were Green’s highest-scoring games of March, including a BBL Championship career high 32 points in the home win as he shot an eye-watering 7-10 (70%) three-pointers for a career high in makes, including a pair of triples in the key run to open the second half.
Overall, he is fourth in the BBL for scoring and second in rebounding with averages of 18.4 points and 9.0 boards per game, as well as being sixth in blocked shots. In total, he has scored more baskets than any other player in the BBL Championship so far this season, with 215 currently two clear of David Sloan.
Giants now look to close out the regular season in April by consolidating fourth place, starting with a huge Retro Night North West derby against Cheshire Phoenix live on Sky Sports tonight.
