The new campaign is almost here, and we know you’re just as
excited as we are for the new season as we make the world of basketball KNOW
OUR NAME!
The summer has been epic for British Basketball, and with
the return of the BBL comes a new level of anticipation, as we’re set for
another epic campaign with a tonne of incredible talent taking to the court to
compete for glory.
We asked one of our league legends, Mike Tuck, to name the six
most exciting things you need to know about ahead of the new season! He’s
picked quite the mix, we think – keep scrolling to find his choices and let us
know your thoughts on our socials!
KNOW OUR NAME!
One of the most exciting things to watch with the league
this season is the roll out of the league’s new marketing campaigns. A huge
part of the league’s new investment plan from American-based investment group
777 was to implement a brand-new marketing strategy across the league to
promote and broaden the league’s reach, so we’re looking forward to seeing all
the marketing messages put to work.
EUROPE
Both London and Leicester will have competed in European
competitions this season. London will compete in the 7DAYS EuroCup while
Leicester competed in the Basketball Champions League Qualification. This is a
huge step forward for the league to see multiple teams representing the BBL in European
competition. Although both these teams have competed in Europe before, this is
the first time in a long time we have more than one team representing in the
same season.
SKY SPORTS
The BBL’s contract with Sky Sports has been extended for
another season, which means you can catch all the BBL action on a weekly basis
with Sky Sports. Myself, Nat Coombs, Kieron Achara, Drew Lasker, Dan Routledge
& Anthony Rowe will be bringing you the best of British Basketball on
Friday nights LIVE on Sky Sports!
MARC STEUTEL
There’s a new man in charge in the North-East! Marc Steutel
has been appointed Head Coach of the Newcastle Eagles. Steutel has acted as
Coach for the Great Britain Men’s National Team and the NBL’s Teeside Lions in
the past and now makes his much-anticipated debut in the BBL. Widely regarded
as one of the best up and coming British coaching talents, Steutel takes the
Eagles into the post-Fletcher era with a rebuild in Newcastle.
NEW-LOOK GIANTS
Vince Macaulay is synonymous with British Basketball and
it’s only right to see him back in the BBL, only now with the Manchester
Giants. Vince got to work as soon as he landed in Manchester with BBL veterans
Rahmon Fletcher and Dirk Williams announced as his first signings. He has since
added other familiar names such as William Lee and Nick Lewis, cementing the
new look Giants with loads of battle-tested BBL talent. Will they be able to
put it all together on the court?
SAM DEKKER
A 38-point performance and a game-winner already under his
belt in the preseason, Sam Dekker has our attention! The forward has a wealth
of NBA and European experience after stints with the Houston Rockets, Los
Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors
in the NBA, and in Russia and Turkey. Eyes will be peeled to see if he can
stand out from the crowd throughout the season as the Lions have one of the
more challenging schedules with BBL/EuroCup matches to contend with.
