B. Braun Sheffield Sharks were able to win a hard-fought match against the Plymouth City Patriots in the British Basketball League.
In the
opening match of game week seven of the British Basketball League, B. Braun
Sheffield Sharks were able to shut down the Plymouth City Patriots and win to
the score of 67-55.
Starting Five
Plymouth
City Patriots starting five: Jacob Wiley, Mason Faulkner, Taylor Johnson, Joe
Hart, TJ Atwood.
Sheffield Sharks starting five: Terrell Allen, Jalon Pipkins, Kipper Nichols, Jordan Ratinho, Bennett Koch.
First Half
The game started slow and gritty, with both teams struggling to score in the first quarter. With the Patriots only going 6-for-20 from the field in the first quarter, many of their players were struggling to find the bottom of the net.
Jacob Wiley
was arguably Plymouth’s best player in the first, notching four points off four
shots, while the likes of Mason Faulkner and TJ Atwood struggled from the
field.
Sheffield
were scoring more efficiently, but their lack of field-goal attempts was
keeping the Patriots in the game. Only taking 10 field-goal attempts but scoring
on six of them, Jordan Ratinho was able to log five points off two shots.
The second
quarter seemed to follow suit, much to the dismay of the Patriots. Even though
Wiley continued his good start, finishing the half with nine points, the likes
of Faulkner and Atwood were able to start adding points of their own.
The
difference in field goal attempts was the main reason these teams were still
evenly matched going into half-time, with the Sharks going into the half, up to
the score of 32-28.
Bennett Koch and Jubril Adekoya started to support Ratinho in the scoring department and pushed them ahead to go into half-time.

Second Half
Sheffield
seemed to have been reinvigorated after the half-time team-talk, taking a 10-point
lead by the end of the third quarter.
Going
7-of-12 from the field in the third quarter, their offence was still
methodically slow, but they were capitalizing on the recklessness of the
Patriots.
Koch, Ratinho, and Kipper Nichols had combined for 29 by the end of the third quarter, with the team shooting just a hair below 50% from the field.
The fourth quarter once again followed the game’s consistency, with Sheffield slowing the pace down incredibly and playing at their own speed.
While Plymouth’s scoring seemed to be all-rounded, with Wiley, Faulkner, Johnson, and Atwood all in double-digit figures for scoring, none of the quartet could pull the Patriots ahead of the Sharks.
Koch and Nichols started to up their scoring and had combined for 32 points by the end of the game.
Player of the Game
Bennett Koch was tonight’s Player of the Game. The Sharks’ big man put up 17 points on 12 shots with seven rebounds and a steal.
Team | Name | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
Sheffield Sharks | Bennett Koch | 17 | 7 | 2 |
Sheffield Sharks | Kipper Nichols | 15 | 6 | 5 |
Plymouth City Patriots | Jacob Wiley | 11 | 10 | 0 |
Plymouth City Patriots | TJ Atwood | 11 | 7 | 2 |
