Bristol Flyers have completed their 2023/24 roster with the addition of American point guard Te’Jon Lucas out of Brigham Young University.
The 24-year-old has signed his first professional contract with the Flyers and joins the club on a one-year deal.
On signing his first professional deal, Lucas said:
“It’s definitely a dream come true – it’s always been the goal to play basketball professionally. I’m very excited to get down to Bristol and get my career started.”
“Just from talking to Coach, you can tell he’s very straightforward on what he wants. He’s very team and family oriented and it seems like we have the same vision on what we’re looking for.”
“I’ve done a bit of research into the team and have watched a lot of film from last year and saw that the team finished third. I feel like I can help the team take another step forward and prove a lot of people wrong once again.”
“I’m the type of player who likes to make players around me better and be the head of the snake on the defensive end. I want to do whatever it takes to win and help this club reach its first-ever championship.”
“My message to the Flyers fans is to get your tickets early because it’s going to be a great season. We’re going to play hard and do our best to bring home as many wins as possible.”
Lucas began his college career with Illinois as a four-star recruit out of Milwaukee’s Washington High School in 2016. Following his sophomore season at Illinois in 2017/18, he transferred to play for his hometown Milwaukee Panthers.
After sitting out the 2018/19 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Lucas made an immediate impact with the Panthers as a Junior. In 2019/20, Lucas poured in 14.6 points per game, whilst also being recognised on the All-Conference Second Team in 2020.
He transferred to BYU for his final season of eligibility, granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and posted 10.4 points and 4.7 assists per game, on 31.8% shooting from behind the three-point line.
Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said:
“Few players stuff the stat sheet like Te’Jon. He’s an exceptionally well-rounded, playmaking guard that can impact the game in various ways.”
“He has terrific court vision with a remarkable ability to create open looks for his teammates and can be a high level scorer when necessary.”
“Te’Jon has great leadership skills and from our conversations, it has been clear that we share the same values. We are thrilled to welcome him to Bristol and look forward to working with him this season.”
