The Caledonia Gladiators have announced the appointment of Alan Keane as Assistant Coach to Gareth Murray’s roster for the 2023/24 British Basketball League and Basketball Champions League campaigns.
Having served as the Great Britain Under-18 Men’s Head Coach this summer, Alan’s leadership and mentorship have been pivotal in nurturing young talent on the national stage. Keane’s side finished an impressive 5th in the European Championships in Portugal.
As Assistant Coach to Murray, Keane will work closely with the Head Coach and fellow Assistant Coach Darryl Wood, contributing to player development, tactical planning, and fostering a winning culture within the Gladiators organisation. His vast experience in various coaching roles is expected to complement the team’s pursuit of excellence on the court.
Head Coach Gareth Murray spoke positively of Coach Keane’s appointment, saying:
“I am delighted to now be working with Alan on a full-time basis, building upon our past collaboration. His extensive experience in various levels and aspects of basketball adds immense value to our team. With Alan and Darryl on board, our coaching team boasts a comprehensive range of knowledge and expertise. Together, we should strive to become the top player development and professional team in the country.”
Coach Keane added:
“It is a great time to be joining Caledonia Gladiators and to be a part of Scottish basketball in general. Working with Gareth and the coaching staff brings about a great level of excitement but also seeing the quality of the players Coach Murray has put together and the opportunity to compete in European competitions made my decision very easy. Like most, I eagerly await the start of the season and the opportunity to part of a unique time for Scottish basketball.”
