Bristol Flyers were able to hold on and keep up their great form in the British Basketball League, beating the Cheshire Phoenix 74-70.
Starting Five
Bristol
Flyers starting five: Te’Jon Lucas, Tevin Olison, Trejon Jacob, Raphell
Thomas-Edwards, Brad Greene
Cheshire Phoenix starting five: LaQuincy Rideau, Maceo Jack, Ethan Chargois, Cam Holden, Skyler White
First Half
In a
testing match for both sides, the Newcastle Eagles and Cheshire Phoenix both
started on equal plains to start the game. On Bristol’s home turf, the Flyers
were able to take a narrow edge in the first quarter.
The Flyers
started to camp out and do much of their damage in the paint, with Bristol
trying to get as many points as possible from the inside. 12 points in the
paint showed this, while the Phoenix stuck with their philosophy of high-volume
three-point shooting.
Maceo Jack
started out hot for Cheshire as the captain of the Phoenix hit 3-of-5 threes he
took in the first quarter. The rest of the Phoenix hadn’t caught fire yet, but
Jack was able to keep them within the game by the end of the first quarter and
saw themselves down 17-15 by the end of the quarter.
Cheshire
seemed to come out with something to prove in the second quarter, with the rest
of the Phoenix starting five trying their best to catch up to Maceo Jack in the
scoring department.
Bristol
weren’t able to get out of their offensive slump they were in the first
quarter, only being able to score 31 points by the end of the first half.
The likes of Greene, Jacob and Olison were still scoring for the Flyers, but 14 points in the second quarter saw them down by four points at the end of the half and were ultimately down 35-31 to the Cheshire Phoenix.

Second Half
Even though
the Phoenix took the narrow lead going into the third quarter, the half-time
team talk by Andreas Kapoulas must have done something as the Flyers came out
with a statement to make.
Scoring 27
points and containing the Phoenix to only 11 points, the Flyers showed their
ability to be a true contender in the British Basketball League.
Olison and Greene were once again the standouts for Bristol as Olison added nine points to his name by the end of the third quarter, while Greene totalled 14 points and seven rebounds by the start of the fourth quarter.
The Phoenix
were struggling mightily to get their shooting going, only going 7-for-23 by
the end of the third quarter, with Chargois and Christon being their only
players in double-digit points.
Cheshire
tried their hardest to get back into this game, having another swing, going
24-16 in the fourth quarter. However, the scoring wasn’t enough for the Phoenix
to snatch the win.
Bristol were able to hold on after a heroic performance from Maceo Jack in the fourth quarter, as the Cheshire guard scored 14 in the fourth quarter alone.
The Flyers were able to make it six wins in a row, beating the Cheshire Phoenix 74-70.
Player of the Game
Tonight’s Player of the Game was Tevin Olison of the Bristol Flyers. The guard scored 23 points and logged five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
