British forward Elliot Bailey has joined the Surrey Scorchers roster from Canadian side Carleton for the 2023/24 British Basketball League season.
Local boy Elliot Bailey, originally from Horsham, joined Carleton University, Ottawa, in 2018, and at the beginning of this year led the side to the U Sports Canadian National Championship title.
The former Kent Crusader finished that game with a career-high 21 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Last season he averaged 5.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Bailey graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While standing at 6ft 7’’, the new forward featured during the Scorchers’ opening two home pre-season fixtures at Surrey Sports Park.
On joining the Surrey Scorchers, Bailey said:
“I’m excited to be joining the Surrey Scorchers. I used to come here and watch Guildford Heat play when I was younger, so it is an honour to now be able to play in front of the fans and help bring more wins to Guildford.”
Head coach, Lloyd Gardner said:
“I’m delighted to add Elliot to our squad. he’s coming off the back of a great college career in Canada and has been improving year-on-year since leaving Canterbury Academy in the UK.
“He is another versatile player to add to our front line, who can help us at both ends of the floor.”
