SERIES HISTORY
The Highlanders and Seahawks have a deep history with each other dating back to the 1980s despite just seven total match ups in the series history. The Seahawks own a slight 4-3 edge in the series, but it was the Highlanders who were victorious the last time these two teams met.
In the 2021-22 season, Radford traveled to play at UNC Wilmington and came home with an exciting 51-50 victory. The recently graduated Bridget Birkhead had 16 points for the Highlanders, while Rachel LaLonde just missed a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
UNC Wilmington is searching for its first Division I win of the season coming off a close loss to Wofford earlier this week. The Seahawks defense is holding opponents to just 65 points per game and forcing around 18 turnovers per game. The team has three players currently averaging double-digit points with junior Mary McMillan leading the way with 14.8 points a game thanks to consecutive performances of 20 points against Mount Olive and Wofford.
TRAYLOR JUST MISSES HISTORY
Freshman Ashlyn Traylor continues to amaze as she came just one assist short of making Radford history earlier this week. Traylor finished her game against Bluefield State with 15 points, 11 rebounds (career-high) and nine assists (career-high). To go with that, Traylor also collected a team-high two blocks and two steals as well.
CHRIST CONTINUES BIG START TO SEASON
Jackie Christ also continues to have an impressive start to her senior campaign. Earlier this season, Christ set a career-high in points with 12 after a big performance at Kentucky. Christ hasn’t stopped there, setting a new career-high earlier this week against Bluefield State where she scored 17 points with 8-10 shooting from the field. Christ’s success in the paint is proving to be a vital help to the Highlander offense.
KEEP AN EYE ON BLAKE
Sophomore Vanessa Blake has now had back-to-back double-digit point performances for the first time in her career and is turning into a valuable bench asset for the Highlanders. After a 20-point performance off the bench last week against UNC Greensboro, Blake stayed hot with another 15 points off the bench against Bluefield State. On the season Blake is shooting an incredible 70% (14-20) in just 82 minutes of play.
