SERIES HISTORY
The Highlanders and Eagles have a deep history with each other, with 84 meetings dating all the way back to 1985. Radford owns the series edge 66-18, winning 12 of the last 15 meetings. Two of those Eagles’ victories have come in the last three meetings. Against the Eagles in his Radford career, head coach Mike McGuire owns an impressive 13-6 record.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop is coming off their first Big South victory of the season which snapped a four-game losing streak for the Eagles. Winthrop used a huge fourth quarter to defeat the visiting Longwood 69-55, led by 26 points from Shamyjha Price.
The senior Price leads the scoring efforts for the Eagles with 10.4 ppg this season, but graduate transfer Paige Powell isn’t far behind averaging 10.2 ppg. The Eagles have had just eight players see court-time this season with every player averaging over 10 minutes a game. Over 300 turnovers on the season have been costly for the Eagles, but they are one of the better free throw shooting teams in the league at 68% overall.
FIVE OVER TEN FOR FIRST TIME IN 2022-23
Last time out for the Highlanders saw five different players score double-figure points for the first time this season and the first time overall since November of 2021. Ashlyn Traylor and Rachel LaLonde led the scoring both finishing the game with 14 points each. Olivia Wagner and Vanessa Blake also had big second halves to finish with 13 points each. Thanks to some sharp shooting at the free throw line, Carmen Williams finished the day with 10 points.
TRAYLOR DEALING
Freshman Ashlyn Traylor just isn’t slowing down. After a scoreless first half against Gardner-Webb, Traylor caught fire for all of her 14 points in the game in the back 20 minutes. It marked the 11th time this season that Traylor had reached double figure points, a team-high total. With 11 rebounds a pair of steals and an assist last week to go with that point total, the Franklin, Ind. native continues to be a menace for Big South opponents.
