Detroit Pistons GM Troy Weaver says he thought it was important to trade for James Wiseman because of how loaded the Eastern Conference is with frontline bigs.

“We’re excited to add James to the group. He fits in because we need some additional help up front. To compete at a high level in the East, you have to have guys up front. You look at Boston, Milwaukee, Philly, and Cleveland, they all have formal bigs and they really control the game on the glass. We want to not just put together a team that can play against certain teams, we want to play against everyone and we want to compete against the best. We needed to add to the frontline, and when James became available, we were aggressive in trying to attain him.”
