CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Ashlyn Traylor has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the first weekly honor for the Highlanders this season.
The newcomer Traylor was fantastic in her collegiate debut this week with incredible performances across the board. Traylor fueled the Highlander offense with double-digit point totals in all three games, averaging 14.7 points a game on the week. Traylor caused chaos all over the court as she dished out eight assists, pulled down nine rebounds and collected five steals while serving as the heart for two close losses at Kentucky and Cincinnati and a team-best 21 points in a winning effort against Emory & Henry.
Traylor is the first Highlander to win the freshman of the week award since the 2020-21 season and the first to be the sole-owner of the award since Bryonna McClean won the weekly honor in the second week of the 2018-19 season. The Highlanders’ have a deep history with the freshman of the week award, as Traylor is the 30th player in program history to win it.
The Highlanders are currently preparing for another quick turnaround as the team’s current road trip continues with a bout against UNC Greensboro this upcoming Wednesday. Tip is set for 11 a.m. in Greensboro, N.C. with the action being streamed on ESPN+.
