The Cheshire Phoenix kept up their impressive start to the British Basketball League season, beating the Manchester Giants 116-88.
The Cheshire Phoenix were able to leave Manchester with the North-West derby bragging rights, beating the Manchester Giants to the score of 116-88.
Starting Five
Manchester
Giants starting five: Jalen Harris, Jamell Anderson, Mason Bourcier, Austin
Lawton, Evan Walshe
Cheshire Phoenix starting five: LaQuincy Rideau, Maceo Jack, EJ Stephens, Ethan Chargois, Skyler White
First Half
With the
return of September’s Player of the Month Aaryn Rai, albeit from the bench, the
Cheshire Phoenix were ready to put the British Basketball League on notice once
again.
In the
season’s second North-West derby, it was the Phoenix who started off hot. Taking
a 34-24 lead by the end of the first quarter, Cheshire had forgotten how to
miss.
Skyler
White, EJ Stephens, and LaQuincy Rideau all had eight points by their name and
a 64% efficiency from the field had the Phoenix rolling.
Manchester
didn’t start off badly, but just couldn’t contain the Phoenix. 24 points were
by their name as Mason Bourcier notched up six points in the first quarter.
The Phoenix’s
offence was just on another level, however. With 10 assists off 12 field goals,
the Phoenix’s ball movement was truly clicking, and Manchester had no answer
for it.
The second
quarter followed the same script as the first quarter, with the Phoenix’s
offence still showing its potential to be near-unstoppable.

Going into
the second half at 66-46 to the Phoenix, their offence was a sight to behold.
Maceo Jack
was able to add 10 points to the five he scored in the first quarter, ultimately
leading the Phoenix with 15 by the end of the half. While Rideau was two points
off every Cheshire starter being in double-digit points.
Cheshire’s
ball movement continued with 20 of their 23 field goals being assisted on.
Manchester
were trying their hardest to make this a competitive game, with the big man,
Austin Lawton scoring eight points in the second quarter.
Second Half
The Giants
seemed to wake up slightly in the second half, with Manchester outscoring the
Phoenix in the third quarter, by 29-20.
Jalen Harris
was able to show his skills for the Giants, scoring nine points in the third
quarter, while Jamell Anderson and Evan Walshe added another six points each.
The Phoenix
kept up their level of offence with White and Cam Christon adding five points
each, with Maceo Jack adding another four points.
Even though
the Giants had started to bring the game back, they still saw themselves down
86-75 entering the fourth quarter.
The
Cheshire Phoenix were able to see out the game against the Manchester Giants
after shutting down the Giants in the fourth quarter.
Rideau was
able to log the points-assists double-double, with both Jack and Chargois
logging 20+ points each.
The Phoenix were simply too strong for the Giants tonight, winning 116-88.

Tonight’s Player of the Game was Maceo Jack of the Cheshire Phoenix. Jack put up 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting with three rebounds, and two assists.
