Brandon Ingram, accustomed to being a primary scoring option with the New Orleans Pelicans, finds himself in a different situation while representing Team USA in the FIBA World Cup.
In the opening game against New Zealand, where the Americans secured a 99-72 victory, Ingram played just 15 minutes and contributed 2 points, making 1 out of 4 field goals. He also managed 2 rebounds and 3 assists.
Being part of a star-studded lineup often means adjusting to a lesser role, and Ingram has experienced this firsthand. “This is totally different than what I am used to,” the 25-year-old small forward said, per Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
Despite the frustration of reduced minutes and scoring opportunities, he remains committed to the team’s success and understands the importance of a collective effort.
“The team is winning right now, so I can’t be selfish thinking about myself. But it’s a little frustrating right now for me, and I’m just trying to figure out ways I can be effective,” Ingram added.
