The Cheshire Phoenix have confirmed the acquisition of another highly-rated rookie guard, as they confirm that Towson Tigers’ Cam Holden, has joined the club for the 2023/24 season.
Described as a tenacious passer and playmaker, Holden often operated as a ‘Point Forward’ at Towson, with the 6’5″ guard playing unselfishly in terms of his decision-making, averaging almost five assists per game in his final year.
Holden became the second player in program history to record a triple-double for Towson (24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists), exemplifying his ability to control the tempo of games and make an impact on both sides of the court.
The 23-year old also achieved first team all-NCAA honors and named in his conference’s all-defensive team. Holden’s versatility and determination offers him plenty of opportunity to make his mark in the British Basketball League as he looks to leave his own mark in his first year at professional level.
Speaking following his signing by the Phoenix, Holden said:
“I am very excited to start my professional career in the British Basketball League and to be part of the Cheshire Phoenix. I believe that Coach Ben and I both have the same vision for the club and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play for a coach like him. I can’t wait to go out there, compete for this club and give it my all with my teammates on the court!”
Cheshire Phoenix Head Coach Ben Thomas added:
“I am really excited about Cam joining the Phoenix, we really believe he is one of the most unique players we have signed. His career in the NCAA took a big swing last season where he started playing at Point Guard and did a really great job.
“With his size and ability to play four different positions on the floor, it makes him a nightmare for the opposition and we are looking forward to utilizing that to win games next season.”
